OpenAI has just unveiled ChatGPT Health, a brand-new experience dedicated to health and wellness monitoring. Launched in early January 2026, this feature allows users to connect their medical data and wellness apps to receive more personalized and relevant health insights.

ChatGPT Health: A Dedicated AI Health Interface

ChatGPT Health provides a separate space specifically designed for health-related conversations, distinct from regular chats. In this secure environment, sensitive information—such as medical records, test results, and wellness app data—is protected by multiple layers of encryption and isolated from other user conversations.

OpenAI explained that this new environment builds on ChatGPT’s existing strong security mechanisms, adding additional protections specifically for health data. Conversations in ChatGPT Health are not used to train OpenAI’s models and can be viewed, edited, or deleted by the user at any time.

What You Can Do with ChatGPT Health

With this new feature, users can soon:

  • Import and analyze electronic medical records (EMRs) to understand lab results, clinical history, or treatment timelines.

  • Connect wellness apps, such as Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Function, Weight Watchers, or Peloton, to link physical activity, sleep, and nutrition with health conversations.

  • Receive simple, personalized explanations of complex data, such as cholesterol trends, test implications, or preparation tips for medical appointments.

OpenAI emphasizes that ChatGPT Health is designed to support users in understanding their health, but it does not replace healthcare professionals. It does not provide diagnoses or treat medical conditions; instead, it helps users prepare for appointments, decode information, and track trends over time.

Privacy and Security at the Core

Data privacy is central to ChatGPT Health. OpenAI has implemented an isolated space where health data is stored separately, with enhanced encryption and clear access controls. This ensures that sensitive information does not mix with other chats or get used to train AI models.

Users remain in full control of their data: they can connect or disconnect data sources at any time and delete stored information according to their preferences.

Gradual Rollout and Availability

At launch, ChatGPT Health is available via a waitlist for ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users, excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK. After this initial phase, OpenAI plans to expand access to more regions and to the Web and iOS versions in the coming weeks.

Some specific integrations—such as EMR connections or Apple Health—are currently limited to users in the United States.

Conclusion: ChatGPT Health, a New Step for AI in Healthcare

With the launch of ChatGPT Health, OpenAI takes a major step forward in integrating AI into wellness and health data understanding. By combining enhanced data security, personalization based on user medical information, and collaboration with healthcare experts, this feature aims to help users better understand their health daily, without ever replacing a professional.

ChatGPT Health is thus positioned as an intelligent support tool, capable of simplifying complex information, preparing for medical appointments, and encouraging a more informed approach to personal health monitoring.
